This tour in a Historic Yellow Bus takes guests to one or two of the many geyser basins in Yellowstone.  The tour can be catered based on guests’ requests if the guest has a certain place they would like to go in the Firehole Basin area, which is located between Old Faithful Inn and Madison Junction.  If wildlife are seen during the tour, stops may be made to view them as well.

Restrooms: While there are no dedicated restroom stops on this tour, the guide will accommodate if requested during the tour.

IMPORTANT NOTE – the Firehole Basin Adventure and Twilight on the Firehole tours will travel the same route.  Advise guests accordingly.

CHECK-IN REQUIREMENTS:

The valley between Old Faithful and Madison, called the Fire Hole since the days of the beaver trappers, is the heart of the greatest geyser region on Earth. Guests will travel in one of the Historic Yellow Buses to explore the magnificent thermal features in this area. Time and traffic will determine which of these thermal features are visited, and there may be stops for wildlife as well. NOTE–due to traffic and parking concerns, this tour does not stop at the Midway Geyser Basin.

On this tour, guests will enjoy the scenic shores of Yellowstone Lake and breathtaking views from the Lake Butte Overlook. It’s a ride through history and nature in a Historic Yellow Bus.  The area around the north shore of Yellowstone Lake is a charming locale at any time of day, but in the evening, the effects of the light offer truly stunning vistas to explore, and wildlife is more active as well.  From the 8,348-foot (2,544-meter) summit of Lake Butte, guests will have views (weather permitting) of Electric Peak and Mount Washburn, on the northeast and north sides of the Park, and of the magnificent Grand Tetons to the south (in neighboring Grand Teton National Park). As the twilight shadows fall, guests climb back into the Historic Yellow Bus, and the tour follows the same route back to their pickup locationNOTE—please make sure guests are aware this is a BUS tour, not a tour on the lake.

If you have an afternoon to spare, spend it along the shores of Yellowstone Lake in one of our 1930s-era Historic Yellow Busses. We’ll depart the beautiful Lake Yellowstone Hotel and meander our way south to the West Thumb Geyser Basin, where your congenial driver-guide will take you on a walking tour. This basin was described by fur trapper Daniel T. Potts in a letter home to his brother in 1827 and became the first published description of the future Park’s amazing thermal features. After the walk, we’ll make our way back north to the hotel with several stops along the lakeshore to take in the beaches, the surrounding mountains, and the essence of “a lake, cold and pellucid,” as another of the historic crowd described it. Unless the weather were to insist otherwise, we’ll try to spend part of the afternoon with the convertible top open, but in any case, we’ll have a fun and laid-back afternoon along the shores of Yellowstone Lake. Join us!

Twilight adds an extra dimension to the landscape. IMPORTANT NOTE – the Firehole Basin Adventure and Twilight on the Firehole tours will travel the same route.  Advise guests accordingly.

Autumn in Yellowstone means wildlife are growing their heavier fur coats and fattening up for the long winter ahead, and the Lamar Valley Wildlife Tour will have you out early to try and find the wild critters in their habitat. We’ll head east from the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel, across Yellowstone’s Northern Range, and out into the famed Lamar Valley along the Park’s Northeast Entrance Road. We may make it all the way to the charming hamlet of Cooke City, Montana, before retracing our steps to Mammoth Hot Springs in mid-afternoon (animals are where they decide to be, so on days with lots of wildlife watching, the tour doesn’t make it as far before it’s time to return). Your driver/guide will be loaded up with information about Yellowstone’s flora, fauna, geography, geology, and human history, as well as spotting scopes and meals! We’ll provide a Continental breakfast of muffin and juice, and a deli lunch. Please order your deli lunch at the Front Desk by 7:00 p.m. the night prior to your tour (Club Croissant deli lunches will be ordered for all individuals who do not place an order). If you’d like hot beverages during the tour, please bring a thermos along– you’ll be able to fill it at the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel before departure. For a wonderful day out in the wild, join us for the Lamar Valley Wildlife Tour!
