YLYC – Canyon Campground Sites

Canyon Campground has over 270 tent only, RV only, and tent plus RV sites, in various sizes.  There are no hookups at Canyon Campground.

From July 1st to Labor Day, guests can stay a total max. # of 14 nights, even if the nights are on non-consecutive.
For all other dates, guests can stay at a total max. # of 30
nights, even if the nights are on non-consecutive.
The total maximum number of nights during the season is 44 nights, even if the nights are on non-consecutive.

The NPS entrance fee is valid for 7 days.  Guests staying longer than 7 days will need to pay an additional entrance fee or have a National Parks Pass.

*Please note that beginning with the 2027 season, reservations for Bridge Bay, Canyon, Grant and Madison Campgrounds and Fishing Bridge RV Park will be handled through Recreation.gov.

Tent Only Sites

Each site features a picnic table and fire ring with grill.  Shared bear boxes are available in most loops. Two showers per site, per day (regardless of the number of site occupants) included in the rate (showers are located in Camper Services building). Potable water is available in Comfort Stations, from spigots throughout campground, or at RV dump station. Tent sites are only able to accommodate campers sleeping in tents on the ground. No vehicle sleeping or vehicle camping is permitted in tent-only sites.

Small Tent Only – 8’x8′

  • Site can accommodate:
    • One tent up to 8 feet by 8 feet
  • One vehicle allowed at site (maximum vehicle length cannot exceed 20 feet) 
  • Maximum of 6 people per site, unless sleeping in one camping unit (i.e. one tent), or family with dependent children.
  • Tent sites do not have designated tent pads

Large Tent Only – 12’x12′

  • Site can accommodate 
    • One tent up to 12 feet by 12 feet 
    • OR up to two 8 foot by 8 foot tents.  
    • Site can only accommodate number and size of tents as listed.
  • One vehicle allowed at site (maximum vehicle length cannot exceed 20 feet) 
  • Maximum of 6 people per site, unless sleeping in one camping unit (i.e. one tent), or family with dependent children.
  • Tent sites do not have designated tent pads

  • REQUIRED COMMENT – if ADA/ABA guest, add a comment detailing their needs.  It non-ADA/ABA guest, add a comment stating “ADA not rqrd” or similar.

General Information

Hiker/Biker Sites – These are sites specifically for guests on foot (hikers) or those who show up on a bicycle. Reservations cannot be made in advance but these guests will never be turned away at any campground that allows tents. Sites are $10 upon arrival.

Campground registration is generally between 1:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. (hours subject to change seasonally).  For reserved guests arriving after hours, an instruction sheet will be posted at the registration desk directing them to their site.  Guests should be advised to check in the following morning.

  • Canyon Campground does not have any hookups.  
  • Comfort Stations are located throughout the campground and within walking distance of campsites. The building only has cold running water (suitable for drinking) and includes sinksflush toilets, and a dishwashing additional (a small room with a sink for washing dishes). It is recommended guests bring a pot of hot water with them to the dishwashing stations for dishes. There are also electrical outlets. Guests are encouraged to not use these outlets for battery charging and may go to the office for assistance with that.
  • Potable water is also available at RV dump station and from spigots throughout the campground.
  • Personal Portable Showers are permitted at campsites only if the wastewater is collected and disposed of properly.
  • Camper Services Building, which provides toilets, showers, sinks, and coin-operated laundry, is located next to the Registration Building.  
    • Two showers per site, per day (regardless of the number of site occupants) are included in the rate – guests will be provided with a shower punch card (they use cash or card to purchase showers as needed or pay as you go/punch cards are given to guests when they check-in). General hours of operation are 7 am to 9:30 pm from Memorial Day to the last weekend in August, and 8 am to 9 pm from campground opening date to Memorial Day, and last weekend in August to campground closing date.
    • ABA/ADA accessible showers are only available at Grant Campground.
  • Dump Station located near the campground entrance. During periods of cold weather (freezing temperatures), the dump station may be closed for periods of time. There is no cost for non-campground guests.

Generators are permitted during the day between 8:00am and 8:00pm.  Generators may not exceed 60 decibels at 50 feet.  Quiet hours are 10:00pm to 6:00am.

  • Open fires are permitted in fire rings only (unless burning restrictions are implemented).  Firewood available at Registration Building. 
  • Charcoal and gas grill cooking is allowed. Grills must be covered when cooking, cooled, and put away at night.
  • Propane Gas: The YL Park Service Stations at Grant and Fishing Bridge will fill propane tanks, but not exchange them. The Old Faithful, Canyon, Tower, and Mammoth Stations will sell and exchange 20lb & 30lb tanks.

Pets allowed, 2 pets per site, and on leash at all times. They may not be left unattended.  Guest are responsible for pet waste and damages. Refer guests to our website page (under “STAY” and “CAMPING”, scroll to the bottom to) “Pets at Campground” for more info.

Guests sleeping in a vehicle should be placed in an RV only or RV/Tent Site – sleeping in a vehicle or vehicle camping is prohibited in tent-only sites.

  • Multiple RVs OR multiple cars are allowed per site, so long as all wheels are on the gravel/pavement within the site.   
  • Guests are not allowed to unhook and park their vehicle in the parking lot at any campground.  All vehicles must fit in designated site.
  • Guests may not purchase an additional site to park extra vehicles or equipment.  All sites must be occupied, meaning someone sleeping at the site. 
  • There is no limit to the number of motorcycles allowed at one site, as long as all tires are on the parking pad area, and none are infringing into the roadway.  The maximum of 6 guests per site is still valid.
